Apple announces SSD replacement program for Macbook Air

In response to numerous failures of 64 and 128gb SSD's in the previous generation of Macbook Air laptops, Apple has agreed to replace these drives free of charge.  The recall applies to Macbook Air computers sold between June 2012 and June 2013.

To determine if your computer is included in this program, go to the Mac App Store , click on Updates, and choose the MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1.  Once you run the update, you will be directed to the Replacement Program page from Apple if this applies to your computer.

Apple strongly recommends against installing any operating system updates or new applications in your drive if it is one that needs to be replaced.  They also recommend backing up any data immediately.

If you believe you have already paid for repairs for this problem, contact Apple, as they will issue refunds for this issue.

You can read the announcement at the Apple Support Page.
