Apple shows off iPad Air

Apple today revealed the latest versions of their iPad tablets in the form of the iPad Air and Retina iPad Mini.

Whilst the Retina iPad Mini features Apple's Retina display the highlight though is the new iPad Air. Sleekly sculpted, with a new aluminium unibody, the iPad Air contains a 64bit Apple A7 processor at its core which is said by Apple to feature twice the CPU and GPU capabilities of the previous generation.

It's backed up by an M7 coprocessor which is designed to more efficiently carry out tasks normally handled by the CPU further relieving the load from the CPU. At only 7.5mm thick the new device weighs in at less than a pound in weight, has 24% less volume, yet still maintains 10 hours battery life which Apple say is due to the vastly increased processor efficiency.

Wi-Fi is also improved with twin aerials providing MIMO support for faster more reliable connections at speeds up to 300Mbps. An LTE version is also being produced for those using cellular data networks on the move.
