Apple's new iPad preorders sell out as the world begs for more

Apple’s latest frenzy has been confirmed: the new iPad preorders have sold out worldwide, as demand for the HD tablet soars days before its official release.

This Friday will mark the official release of the third generation iPad from Apple, and though the company promised its customers who preordered it that they would receive it by March 16, supply and demand has dictated otherwise.

The newest iPad may not be a total reinvention of the wheel – or apple, for that matter – but it has drawn tremendous hype and appeal with the addition of true 1080p high-definition visuals (and greater), courtesy of a 2048×1536 QXGA Retina display.

“The new iPad now has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos,” explained Philip Schiller, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Apple.

Emails from Apple currently state that preorders placed through its website in the U.S. and Canada won’t ship until the following Monday, March 19. And if you try to preorder now, still five days from launch, Apple’s website says your order won’t ship for ”2-3 weeks.”

For anyone who has waited patiently to acquire his or her first tablet, of any kind, the newest iPad seems to be the one to pry open the wallet for. The prices are at a premium, but so too is the product’s claim to fame, functionality, and sexy screen appeal.

There is no doubt that with this sold-out news, eager Apple users will be lined up for blocks around the stores that will be carrying the new iPad.

This bad-boy of a tablet could fetch thousands on eBay from potential customers whose thirst for a new iPad could rival a dying pioneer crawling across the Mohave desert in search of water.

Some consumers have already reported receiving emails from Apple stating that their iPads have already shipped. In reality, they will not know if that means they will receive the shiny new packaging with a silvery piece of fruit on the cover until Friday, or possibly Monday, comes and goes.

How long will Apple be short on these? Will the Apple promise of supply outdo the demand?
