Asus ROG Raidr Express PCIe SSDs now available - with RAMdisk software

Asus has introduced its PCI Express solid state drives. The company showcased the drives half a year ago during CES 2013 in Las Vegas but the Republic of Gamers SSDs are now available in stores.  The Raidr Express drives are part of the Republic of Gamers series and are targeted at gamers and overclockers.

The SSDs should work with both a UEFI BIOS or a classic BIOS and to change between the two there is a physical switch on the drive. This technology is called DuoMode Support.

The 240 GB  SSD has 19 nm MLC NAND from Toshiba and contains two SandForce 2281 controllers. Asus specifies sequential reads of 830 MB/s and sequential writes of 810 MB/s. The drive should be able to achieve 100k IOPS for both random reading and writing. To connect to the computer the drive has two PCI Express lanes.

The drive comes with software that makes it possible to write frequently used data not to the SSD but to the RAM. According to Asus this RAMdisk software should make it possible to achieve 12,000 MB/s. With HubriDisk software that also comes with the drive it's possible to use it as a cache drive for use with e.g. a HDD.

Asus also delivers an Republic of Gamers branded version of CrystalDiskBenchmark to test the performance of the drive yourself.
