Belkin: Despite our fix, users might need to reset router

Although Belkin has fixed the issue that caused many customers to lose their internet connection, the company states that some users might need to reset their device. The reason the devices didn't connect to the internet was according to a spokeswoman of Belkin related to the cloud, "one of our cloud services associated with maintaining router operations was negatively impacted by a change made in our data center that caused a false denial of service", she said.

The errors persisted for a couple of hours before Belkin was able to fix the error. But not all Belkin router and cable router owners might be back online yet, the spokeswoman continues " Normal operations were restored by 3PM PST, however, some users might still be required to reset their router and/or cable modem to regain connectivity. "

To prevent the same issue happening again, Belkin promises to do better in the future, "moving forward, we will continue to monitor, improve and validate the system to ensure our routers continue to work properly in the event connectivity to our cloud environment is not available."

Yesterday owners of selected Belkin devices were unable to connect to the internet. Many users started to complain on Twitter and after a couple of hours the company acknowledged the problem and issued a workaround. Although many users suspected the issue was caused by a failing software update, Belkin quickly denied that.

The issue was likely caused because the routers check whether they are online by pinging heartbeat.belkin.com which was unreachable yesterday.
