BenQ unveils its first Double-Layer DVD rewritable drive

City of
Industry
,
CA
(May 25, 2004) -
BenQ introduced its DVD rewritable drive that supports DVD+R double-layer (DL)
recording. The BenQ DW830A features a DVD+R DL 2.4X and DVD+R 8X write speed, as
well as DVD+RW 4X rewrite speed in terms of its optical operating performance.

With the introduction of
double-layer recording technology in the optical industry, the standard 4.7GB of
data storage capacity available in single-layer DVD recordable media has nearly
doubled to approximately 8.5GB of storage space available on double-layer media
- making the BenQ DW830A a natural fit for users looking to archive large
amounts of data or store multimedia applications. In addition, the BenQ DW830A
provides users with the option to record up to 16 hours of VHS or four hours of
DVD quality video on a single disc, while still retaining backward compatibility
with existing DVD video and DVD-ROM drives.

The DW830A also features BenQ's
Write Right Technologies, which include:

  • WOPC II (Walking Optimal
Power Control): constantly evaluates the writing quality and
automatically adjusts the writing power to ensure the best possible
write quality over the entire disc

  • BLER
OPC (Block Error Rate Optimal Power Control): enhances the writing
quality near the end of the disc to prevent any warping or potential
    problems

  • Tilt
Control: repositions the OPU to maintain a 90-degree angle between the
disc and laser to ensure the best writing quality throughout the
    disc

  • Sliding
Cone Mechanism: the disc positioning on the turntable provides better
clamping force over the disc for auto centering, as well as keeps the
    noise and vibration levels
    low

  • Qvideo
2.0: BenQ's software program that allows the user to create a DVD disc
from a television, AV or DV source in real
    time

  • Book
Type Management: enables the user to easily change the write format
between DVD+R/RW to DVD-ROM to be more compatible with almost 99 percent
    of all DVD
    players

  • Smart
Write Control: Walking Optimal Power Control (WOPC) technology
dynamically adjusts the burner power to ensure the best writing quality
    throughout the burning
    process

  • +VR
Function: allows the user to directly record and edit on the DVD
    disc
