Currently several users around Europe (currently mainly the Netherlands and Denmark are affected) are complaining about phone calls coming from a mysterious number. Reports on the internet say that the man on the phone had an Indian accent , claims to be from Microsoft and asks users to go behind their computers to fix the issue. The calls originate from the number ‘0014259053074′ which seems to be Australian based. Interestingly enough, Microsoft Australia reported about the issue back in March 2011 and it seems the scammers have now moved to Europe and are starting a new wave.
Australian users who already suffered from the phone calls report that the scammers are using call scripts and that there is a lot of noise in the background which leaves the impression the scam operations are professionally managed from Indian call centers. If users didn’t answer the message before, they report to be called repeatedly, unfortunately when calling the number it is always busy.

My colleague, a software engineer, knew better and put the guy in his place. My wife also didn't fall for it.
