Biwin touts first 10-channel SATA3 SSD, the NuvoDrive NX

Biwin, a company which specialises in flash storage products has announced the NuvoDrive NX, the world's first SATA3 SSD with a 10-channel controller, the Novachips NVS3600A "Bugatti". Pretty much all current SATA3 SSDs use 4 or 8 channel controllers, so the extra two channels allows the controller to bring the write throughput over 500MB/s without data compression. The 10-channel controller also has the advantage of being able to make available 80GB, 160GB and larger capacity SSDs that match traditional HDD capacities. Up until now, Intel was the only company with a 10-channel controller, but used in SATA2 products such as its 320 and X25-M series.

The NuvoDrive NX features sequential performance of up to 500MB/s read and 520MB/s write, 0.1ms latency and random write 4K performance of up to 80,000 IOPS even with incompressible data. Its features include 128/256-bit AES data encryption, Native Command Queuing depth of 32 commands, TRIM and advanced BCH ECC. It claims to offer sophisticated wear levelling technology designed to prevent premature exhaustion of its NAND cells and capable of enterprise-class endurance with 2,000,000 hours MTBF.

Biwin plan mass production in the 3rd quarter and will show a working demo at its booth at Computex Taipei. This NuvoDrive NX range will come in a capacity choice of 80GB, 160GB and 300GB, all with an SATA3 interface.

Full specifications can be viewed on its website product page.
