Blancco announces breakthrough in SSD erasing

Today the Finnish company Blancco issued a press release announcing a breakthrough in SSD erasing. The company claims to have developed a patent pending erasure method for solid state disks. The method is called automated freeze lock removal. This feature should open access  firmware-based erasure commands in SSDs, according to the company.

The software somehow bypasses the freeze lock of SSDs. This is a protection mechanism which resides in the BIOS of computers. This tells the SSD to lock its security and was designed to protect against data wipes by e.g. viruses.

According to Blancco their SSD erasure technology is verified by an independent third-party data recovery company,  Stellar Data Recovery. This company found that after a month of deep level invasive tests it could not recover any data from the wiped SSDs.
