Box.net giving iOS users 50GB of cloud storage for free

If you just got a new iPhone 4S (or own any other iOS based device) and are looking for a cloud storage solution that's cheaper than iCloud, look no further. Box.net is offering 50GB of free cloud storage to anyone using an iOS device.

If you want to get the 50GB of free storage all you have to do is install the Box.net app on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. The app is free and so is the account you need to create. If you are already a Box.net user then simply logging into your account via the iOS app will bump you up to 50GB of storage.

The free 50GB promotion runs from now until December 2 but as long as you get in on this before then you'll get to keep the 50GB forever. What's even more fantastic is that the storage is available to you no matter where you access your account which includes the Web, not just iOS devices. Another nice bonus is the ability to wirelessly stream files from your Box.net account directly to your Apple TV.

The only downside to using the Box.net solution instead of iCloud is that there isn't any syncing ability. You need to manually manage your files. The only exception to this is if you have an upgraded Business or Enterprise account. Those accounts come with desktop syncing software for either Windows or Mac.

Even with that downside you really can't beat that much free storage and the ability to stream files to an Apple TV using Airplay. If you haven't checked out what Box.net has to offer it's definitely worth while to do so before the promotion ends. Free means you have absolutely nothing to lose by giving it a try.
