British providers have to block Demonoid and Isohunt

Brits can no longer easily go to Demonoid or Isohunt from this week. The British High Court added both sites to a list of sites that have to be blocked by providers. With the decision, the High Court  has added both sites to an existing list which amongst others already includes the Pirate Bay and Kickass Torrents, according to TorrentFreak.

Expanding the list is easy because the providers no longer oppose in the courtroom against expansion of the list. The Motion Picture Association, representing the movie industry,  has submitted  the list with a complaint to the High Court.

The blockade of piracy sites in the UK is nothing new, the Piratebay has been blocked  since 2012. Nevertheless, users are still able to visit the site by e.g. using proxies. Organizations like the MPAA hope that the blockade still discourages people to visit the sites. Whether that actually works is still questionable. Research in the Netherlands found that the number of downloads through torrents just increased after the blockade of The Pirate Bay.
