Cisco to add Wi-Fi to Flip camcorders

The next version of the popular Flip Video camera will have integrated Wi-Fi built directly into the recording device, Cisco confirmed, though other details remain scarce.

The new Flip device reportedly doesn't have a touchscreen, but the added ability to transfer and upload videos using Wi-Fi will be an interesting feature.  Not including a touchscreen will likely help Cisco keep the cost of the video camera down, hopefully convincing more consumers to pick it up next year.

Pocket-Lint said the new device is expected to launch sometime during the first two quarters in 2010, with the new model also featuring "a large screen that slides to reveal the record and menu buttons underneath" so owners have the ability to view what they're filming.
fDon't be surprised if Cisco announces the new product close to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in early January.

Cisco purchased Pure Digital, makers of the Flip video camera, helping the hardware networking company tap into a new revenue stream.  Consumers have been very receptive of the small, sleek, easy-to-use Flip devices, and Cisco is attempting to keep that trend going throughout 2010.

Since the number of Wi-Fi-enabled smartphones continues to increase, adding Wi-Fi to Flip models is an important step for Cisco.  At first, I supported Cisco's purchase of Pure Digital, but now it's time to see what the tech powerhouse is able to do to ensure the product line's future.
