Comcast announces new TV platform and remote control app

Comcast announced today it willl rollout its new DVR platform dubbed X1, and a new remote control app in the coming weeks. Their new DVR platform delivers a large collection of video and integrates interactive, customized apps and social media features with its traditional video services. The guide has a new user interface and features unified search and instant play along with recommendations. Besides that also social networking and music, radio, sports, traffic and weather apps are becoming available on your HD screen through TV optimized apps.

The DVR will also support tru2way and has internet support. The new remote that comes with this DVR is RF so no line of sight is needed anymore. It is expected that the DVR is a free upgrade for current triple play HD/DVR customers of Comcast and it will be slowly rolled out over the United States.

With the DVR a new X1 remote control app was announced, available for the Iphone and Ipod Touch. The app supports a virtual keyboard, which you can use to search,gives you the ability to swipe trough pages and pause the video you're playing by shaking your Iphone/Ipod.
