Dell reveals more of the Adamo XPS

Dell's showing off a little bit more of its ultra-thin Adamo XPS notebook, but continues to hold off on any concrete details.

As with before, all we know is that the Adamo XPS measures 9.9 mm, or roughly 0.39 inches, making it thinner than both the MacBook Air and Dell's previous Adamo models. It may even out-slim Sony's new Vaio X netbook, which measures a half inch thick. However, Dell hasn't confirmed that the computer is a real product, having previously said the photos show only a "design concept."

Still, the new features reveal a little more of the Adamo XPS' potential form, which would obviously be the computer's defining characteristic. Check out the photos:

Now, I have a feeling Dell is messing with us in the first shot by tipping the computer back so the top of the monitor touches the ground. Otherwise, it'd be a very tippy solution to what must already be an incredibly light computer. With that in mind, it seems that the Adamo XPS lays flat like any other laptop, but it gets extra slimness by having the screen fold into a recess in the body. You can see in the second picture how the laptop maintains its form even when it's folded up.

If Dell does turn the Adamo XPS into a real product, it'll be a tough battle against the ultra-thin computers I mentioned above. And it won't be determined by who can shave another 0.1 inch off the form factor, because we're at a point where the difference is barely distinguishable. Specs will prove important, and so will overall build quality and durability. Those factors can't be conveyed in pictures.
