Demand for Ultra HD/4K televisions will increase with more than 500% this year, according to a report from Digitimes research. Ultra HD screens have a higher resolution (3840x2160 pixels) than regular HD screens and should offer improved image quality and more vibrant colors. Demand for Ultra HD TVs should be 12 million this year which is far more than in 2013 when about 2 million Ultra HD TVs were shipped. The larger demand is due to lower prices and increased availability.

Also smaller panel manufacturers are starting production of Ultra HD panels and will likely introduce smaller panel sizes which should also contribute to lower prices. Last year the average screen size of Ultra HD TVs was at least 55 inch, this year also 39 inch panels should hit the market.
