Developer creates script to downloads tracks from Spotify

A Dutch developer has created an open-source tool which allows Spotify Premium users to download MP3 files from the music streaming service. The MP3 download tool retrieves the music from Spotify and adds ID3 tags. The tool is a web application that has to run on a local webserver.  The software is developed with Node.js, a software platform with a build-in web server which understands Javascript.

Spotify users that have installed the tool can simply drag and drop tracks from the Spotify app to the web app and click the download button.

While downloading is legal in many countries, the tool likely violates the Spotify terms. As the developer writes, "Spotify prohibits downloading music from their service, so using this tool is not really allowed and you might risk ending up with a suspended account. I am not responsible for any of that".

More information and downloads can be found on the Github account of the developer.
