Dish Network subscribers get Google TV DVR integration

Do you like the idea of Google TV, but are put off by the price? If the answer is “yes” and you’re a Dish Network subscriber then you’re in luck.

Beginning November 10th, Dish Network is teaming up with Logitech to offer customers a significant discount on a Revue Google TV receiver. Normally priced at $299, Dish is now offering the Logitech Revue to their subscribers for only $179.

Featuring what Dish is calling their “unique pairing protocol”, customers can purchase a DVR integration service for an additional $4 per month. The service claims to offer seamless navigation between existing Dish functionality and Google TV.

"Only Dish Network customers will have access to the most fully featured Google TV experience available, which includes our unique pairing protocol for simultaneous search capabilities across Web and DVR content, as well as Dish Network's VOD programming," said Ira Bahr, Dish Network chief marketing officer. "Customers can now surf the Web, check email, interact with social media, and find additional online television content all from the comfort of their living room sofa."

In order to take advantage of the new offer, Dish Network subscribers must have ViP series HD DVR satellite TV receiver including the ViP 622, ViP 722 and ViP 722k. Customers may order the Logitech Revue directly through Dish’s website or customer service line.

At a time when more cable and satellite TV subscribers are “cutting the cord” and transitioning to online video services, offering this type of integration is a smart move by Dish Network. Like the old saying goes, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” It would be a tempting offer if I was a Dish Network customer, but for now I’m going to have to cling to hope that my cable company will come up with something similar in the future.
