The German wholesaler Mediacom has started distribution of BD-R XL media in Europe. On their homepage they are currently announcing the availability of Pioneer BD-R XL 100 GB media. Pricing of the discs was not published, but on Amazon you can find multiple dealers offering them for prices between 65 and 79 Euros.
BD-R XL discs were already introduced in 2010 but yet have to find their way to Europe. While drives have been available for a certain time, the discs yet had to find their way to Europe
Do you have hardware that is compatible with BD-R XL, would you consider buying these discs other than for testing purposes? Feel free to start a vital discussion either below this post or in the corresponding forum thread.

Plus the fact that the Recording Moguls are going to do their utmost to prevent this media from being available at any price in North America.
Not bloody likely.
For the price of 4 XL disks, I can get a 500 gig portable hard drive AND a decent media player. Won't take 3-4 hours to burn a disk and the hard drive is easily erasable and reuseable, and I've saved myself the cost of the BDXL drive in the first place.
Screw BD-R. Get an HDD array.
Companies give a damn about such prices.........
And if you want then you can get this media even for €30 on the net.
