Don't want Skype? Here's how you can get MSN back

A developer has released an application that makes it possible to continue use MSN, the instant messaging service Microsoft recently shut down.  Microsoft recently pulled the plug on Microsoft Live Messenger and wants users to replace it with Skype.

Not everyone is happy to make the switch yet and this is where Messenger Reviver 2 comes in. The software allows you to continue to use older versions of MSN. It should work with Windows Live Messenger 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.  Currently it's no longer possible to sign in with the official client, but due to the modifications Messenger Reviver makes to your MSN installation, the block is gone (for now).

The application checks if you still have MSN (partly) installed and is able to work with that, or you can download a previous version of MSN and work with that. Once the software has made its modifications to your MSN installation you'll find that you can continue to use MSN. Obviously it's unclear how long it will take Microsoft to block this, but for now it appears to be working.
