Facebook improves privacy options, allows anonymous login

Facebook will provide users more control over the private data they share with applications if they login with their Facebook account. The social network will also add an option to make it possible to login anonymously so applications can’t access any data of the user.

With the new login apps like Spotify and Flip board are no longer able to post to the user’s timeline without explicit permission.  Users are also able to select which data they feel comfortable sharing with applications like their list of friends, likes and profile data.  Upon logging in to the app users can select each item they want to share with the application.

There will also be a feature which allows users to login anonymously which means no data of an user is shared with the developer of the app. Facebook recommends this for applications that aren’t well known yet. However a developer has to add the feature to the app.

The new login will be slowly made available to users the coming months. Facebook announced the changes at their f8 conference where it also announced that developers can start adding Like buttons in their mobile applications, something not possible before.
