Facebook rejects advertisement with image of woman with burned face

Facebook has rejected an advertisement that aimed to raise money for the Dutch Burn Foundation. The advertisement showed a picture of a young woman with a burn in her face.

In an open letter (Dutch) to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg the foundation writes that they were surprised the advertisement was rejected.

"The reason: the advertisement contains images that show a bodytype as perfect or unwanted. Yes, really" the foundation writes. "Is the Facebook algorithm confused or are in we in an era where people with burns are discriminated by a mathematical model?"

The foundation asked Facebook whether the woman on the image has an 'unwanted body type', but hasn't received an answer from the social network.

Facebook has stated to investigate the advertisement of the Burn Foundation and to provide a thorough answer later.
