The coming months the feature will also be rolled out to other countries. Currently the social network is already used by 450 million people to sell or buy stuff, according to Facebook. Marketplace should make this easier and cleaner.

In the Facebook mobile app the Messenger icon will be replaced by a marketplace icon. An algorithm decides what an user gets to see first. This depends on which pages an user likes or the usage behavior inside the virtual market place.

Users can send others a message or bid on an item. Buyers can also search for a category or location to purchase their stuff. There are conditions on selling items on Facebook, no drugs and weapons can be sold, just as any other items forbidden by law. Users can also report items that don't belong in the marketplace.

The marketplace feature is currently only available in the mobile app of Facebook.
