Fuji's mirrorless digital camera leaks before CES

Fujifilm announced on Thursday that they were bringing a bunch of cameras with them to CES 2012 but it seems they were holding back a surprise in that announcement. Wells Fargo published a press release from Fuji detailing a mirrorless camera that was supposed to be debuted at CES.

As of this writing the release is still on the Wells Fargo site with the date of January 10, 2012 meaning it was supposed to go out during CES not the week before. The X-Pro1 seems to be the highlight of the release. The release reads,

“The highlight of the offerings is the Fujifilm X-Pro1, which is a highly featured compact system camera. Fuji-filim said it will build on the success of the X100 model, by adding a camera that features a custom-developed 16-megapixel APS-CMOS sensor incorporating a new filter array and the company's proprietary EXR processor technology.”

The release goes on to detail that the camera will include a hybrid view finder and while take three lenses which include, “the 18mm (27mm equivalent) f/2.0, 35mm (53mm equivalent) f/1.4 and 60mm (90mm equivalent) f/2.4.”

The release also claims the new camera will be able to record FullHD video at 1080p resolution, and will have a EVF offering 1.4 million dots of resolution. The 3-inch LCD screen will tilt and includes a Monitor Sunlight mode which allegedly makes it usable even in direct sunlight.

The specs make this sound like a really nice mirrorless camera. There isn’t any current information about price or release date yet but it’s very likely that information will be announced or at least hinted at during CES next week. If you’re in the market for a camera falling between a regular point and shoot and a DSLR it might be worth waiting to see the full specs and price on the X-Pro1 before pulling the trigger.
