Funai, also known for their Magnavox and Emerson brand Blu-ray players, is one of the first manufacturers to feature Cinavia level 3. The protection works by embedding an inaudible watermark in the audio track of a Blu-ray movie. Inside the Blu-ray player is a Cinavia detector which determines whether the movie is authorized to play. Previous versions would show a message and mute the audio after 20 minutes of viewing the movie. The new level 3 version of Cinavia does the same but also shows a way to legally obtain the movie.

Cinavia is becoming an annoyance for more and more consumers, also the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 contain a Cinavia detector. Recently Verance announced the protection would also become available for  for devices like televisions, set-top boxes, tablets and mobile phones.

Fortunately for those are legally allowed to make a backup of their Blu-ray movie, there are options. Read more on Cinavia and ways to bypass in our in depth article: Ultimate Cinavia Guide: the protection that refuses to be silenced.
