Gartner numbers show you need a magnifying glass to find Windows Phone users

Smartphones running Microsoft's mobile operating system, Windows Phone, continue to decrease in popularity. The latest sales numbers disappoint again and the market share of the OS is nowhere to be seen compared to Android and iOS.

Statistics from Gartner show that in the first quarter of this year only 2.4 million Windows Phones were sold. This means Microsoft's mobile operating system accounts for 0.7% of the total market. In the same period last year, Windows Phone had a market share of 2.5%.

This means that the Windows Phone marketshare comes close to that of BlackBerry, the once popular smartphone brand that currently accounts for only 0.2% of all smartphone sales.

Android is still by far the leading mobile OS. More than 84% of the smartphones sold in the first quarter of this year were running Google's OS. Apple's iOS is second but doesn't come near Android's marketshare at nearly 15%.

Apple's numbers aren't really positive anyway, the company sold 14% less iPhones than the year before.

Samsung sells most Android phones, followed by Huawei , Oppo and Xiaomi.
