Google APAC: No access to legal downloads leads to piracy

The director of content partnerships of Google Asia Pacific, Gautam Anand has said the obvious, but  still good to hear it from a director of a technology giant. On the second day of the Media and Entertainment Business Conclave in India he said that piracy increases due to the fact that a lot of people who would like to legally purchase content  have no legal access to it. According to Anand, ''Piracy happens because people around the world are not able to access content they wish to consume'.

He also added that this encourages others to upload the content somewhere to make it available to others. According to him, piracy can be stopped by making content directly available everywhere. According to him, filmmakers should make their films legally available online on the day of the release. This way people who can't watch it in theaters will buy it online (instead of pirating it) .
