Google Chrome neutralizing ad blockers at Youtube

In an opening salvo againstĀ  ad blockers, it seems that Google has instituted a new strategy against Ad Block Plus and its kin. Many users are reporting that they cannot skip the video ads found at Youtube when using Chrome today. Not only do they have to sit through the ad, but they report that the usual control to skip the last half of the ad is no longer functioning if Ad Block Plus or other, similar extensions are detected. So far, there isn't a comprehensive list of ad blocking extensions that are affected.

Since this only affects Chrome, the obvious solution is simply to stop using this browser for Youtube. Or you can whitelist Youtube within Ad Block Plus or other similar extensions, but then of course, you have to sit through at least half of the video ads. When companies try to force their wishes upon internet users, they will find more trouble than they can handle. There are too many other browser options, though Google probably believes the popularity of Chrome will allow them to dictate to their users.
