They say "two heads are better than one." Does the same hold true for laptop computer screens? GScreen Computer Corp thinks so. The Alaska-based manufacturer has crafted what's being hailed as the first dual HD display laptop: the SpaceBook. It's a technical marvel for those who can afford the stratospheric asking price.
The monstrous setup boasts a combined 34-inches of high-definition visuals (17-inches per screen) and comes in two expensive models: a $2,395 4GB memory version, and a higher-end 8GB memory unit that features a quad processor at the slightly pricier $2,795.
Gordon Stewart, CEO of GScreen, told The Windows Team Blog that inspiration for the project was sparked from a personal experience.
"I was working on a film project in Hawaii and realized that I was going to have to move my entire desktop setup down there from my home in Anchorage to get the computing power and screen real-estate I needed," Stewart said. "That hassle made me realize that I couldn't be the only one who needed a powerful laptop with massive screen size, so I set out to build one."
Stewart is no stranger to dual-screen laptops. His company received coverage in 2009 when it showed off a smaller version of the new SpaceBook. That same year Kohjinsha launched its own non-HD (a key distinction between it and the SpaceBook 17 ) two-screen laptop for $2,1o0.
