HBO works together with anti-piracy partner IP Echelon on lowering the number of illegal downloads. The companies are monitoring several Torrent swarms and sent warnings to illegal downloaders.

While the new season of Game of Thrones has just started, it’s already the most illegally downloaded TV series of the year till now. Sunday the 7th season premiered but that didn’t went well everywhere. Users (therefore) started to search for less legal alternatives and HBO is taking measures to discourage that behavior.

The company not only monitors different Torrent swarms but also sends warnings to users. According to Torrentfreak users receive warnings from both HBO as anti-piracy organisation IP Echelon. The warning mentions the used IP address, the downloaded file and also explains how to get the content from legal sources.

It’s unclear whether the companies will also take legal action against illegal downloaders. settings
