HP Elite X3 Windows 10 ARM CPU powered smartphone to run x86 apps

HP will release a new ARM CPU powered Windows 10 Mobile smartphone in September that will also run x86 apps. Because the phone also supports Continuum it's possible to use the x86 apps on a large screen too.

The phone is codenamed is Elite X3 and the Italian website Plaffo claims it has learned from HP employees that it will be released in September for €699 ($770). That means it will be released after Windows 10's Anniversary Update which is expected for August. The website saw a demonstration of the Elite X3 during a HP event in Milan.

The x86 apps won't be running on the ARM CPU but are streamed to the phone using a new HP powered service. Normally x86 apps only run on x86 compatible CPUs such as those from Intel or AMD.

Other specifications of the phone are a 5.96" AMOLED display with a 2560x1440 resolution and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 CPU with 4 Kyro cores running at 2.15Ghz. The Elite X3 will also feature a fingerprint scanner, iris scanner and a 4,150 mAh battery. The front camera is 8MP while the back camera has 16 Megapixels. It has 4GB RAM, 64GB storage space and a microSD card slot.

HP will also sell a Mobile Extender which is a laptop module in which the phone fits. The interface is then displayed on a large screen using Continuum.
