Intel announces 525 series mSATA SSDs

Intel announced today the Intel Solid-State Drive 525 Series in a small mSATA form factor with 6 Gb/s performance. The drive uses 25 nm MLC NAND and measures 3.7mm x 50.8mm x 29.85mm. It weighs 10 grams  and the mSATA with PCI Express mini-connector delivers the performance of the company's Intel SSD 520 Series  drive. Intel specifies sequential read speeds of up 550 MB/s and writes at 520 MB/s.

When it comes to random access operations, the drive should be good for 50,000 for reads and 80,000 for writes. The Intel SSD 525 Series will be available in 30 GB, 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB and 240GB capacities. The company has begun shipping the 120GB and 180GB options, with additional capacities and volume shipments to follow this quarter. The drives also features 128 bit AES encryption and comes with a 5 year warranty.
