Jailbreak hack now available for Apple's iPad2 & iPhone 4S

A "dream team" of hackers has finally circumvented Apple's A5 chip; the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 can now be jailbroken. The GreenPois0n Absinthe A5 tool was released last weekend for Windows and Mac, granting Apple fans who don't mind relinquishing some basic warranty rights unfettered access to free software.

The group behind the jailbreak, Chronic Dev Team, described the workaround as "not exactly a walk in the park."

"The ridiculously complex combination of exploits-within-exploits that make this iOS jailbreak possible have consumed thousands of hours of brain-power and effort from a legion of world-renowned hackers, several of whom have been working diligently on this project since the dual-core A5 processor was unveiled by Apple last March," wrote the hacker team. "The endless war we fight to jailbreak has become more and more difficult with each new device released, and our recent battle against A5 only proved this further."

The developers warned prospective jailbreakers to first update their devices to iOS 5.0.1 and then refrain from upgrading to iOS 5.0.2 (whenever Apple releases it).

The Windows version can be downloaded here, while the Mac version is here. (via Naked Security)
