Kim Dotcom granted more monthly living expenses, access to a car

A recent report indicates New Zealand has decided to give back some of Kim Dotcom's which were seized when he was arrested. That means the Megaupload founder could start seeing more than the $20,000 per month (in New Zealand dollars) that he was originally granted as a monthly living allowance.

The New Zealand Herald indicates that the court has decided to up Dotcom's living allowance from $20,000 to $60,000 which equates to approximately $48,500 in US dollars. In addition to the bump in Dotcom's allowance he is also granted access to a car, specifically one of his late model Mercedes.

All of this money that is being accumulated is coming from interest being accrued on the $10 million that Dotcom invested in government bonds.

This adjustment in Dotcom's monthly allowance could be due to the procedural error that was recently uncovered. That error was made by police back when the originally seized all of Dotcom's property in January. The restraining order officials applied for was the incorrect type which could have driven the court to provided a larger amount in monthly living allowance to the Megaupload founder. It's not clear right now if that situation drove this increase but it is a possibility.
