Megaupload founder, Kim Dotcom has announced on his Twitter account that Megaupload will be back. An interesting statement as Kim Dotcom is on bail and waiting for an extradition hearing which is scheduled for August. In January his house in New Zealand was raided by armed police officers backed by helicopters, Dotcom is accused of copying and distributing music, movies and other copyrighted content without authorization. On Twitter he states:
“SOPA is dead. PIPA is dead. ACTA is dead. MEGA will return. Bigger. Better. Faster. Free of charge & shielded from attacks. Evolution!”
While Kim Dotcom might appear a fighter for freedom, and thanks to him we might get more clarification on piracy / download sites, he’s isn’t your average hero nor Robin Hood. According to Reuters: ”Millions of dollars in assets were seized or frozen during the raid on his house, including almost 20 luxury vehicles, dozens of computers and art work”.
