Kindle sees fantastic sales but Amazon still won't give numbers

It seems that the entire Kindle family of products is already quite popular for Amazon. The devices collectively sold even better this year than last year, despite a worse economic climate. Despite phenomenal sales Amazon still refuses to give hard numbers for the sales of any of their devices.

On Monday Amazon announced their Kindle line sold four times as much this Black Friday as it did last year. Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle said,

"Even before the busy holiday shopping weekend, we'd already sold millions of the new Kindle family and Kindle Fire was the bestselling product across all of Amazon.com. Black Friday was the best ever for the Kindle family -- customers purchased 4X as many Kindle devices as they did last Black Friday -- and last year was a great year. In addition, we're seeing a lot of customers buying multiple Kindles -- one for themselves and others as gifts -- we expect this trend to continue on Cyber Monday and through the holiday shopping season."

Amazon also stated that the Kindle Fire tablet has stayed on the company's best selling list since the day it was announced, eight weeks ago.

Amazon isn't the only one reporting excellent sales of their devices as the holiday season ramps up. Both Target and Best Buy reported excellent sales of Amazon's devices. Target in particular announced that the Kindle Fire topped tablet sales in all of its stores.

"This was a great Black Friday for Target and for Kindle Fire, which was the bestselling tablet in our stores on Black Friday," said Nik Nayar, vice president merchandising, Target.

All of these comments about stellar sales are fantastic but Amazon still refuses to give hard sales numbers for their devices. There has been so much speculation that the Kindle Fire could outsell the iPad 2 over the holiday season but it's impossible to track that information without actual statistics from the company making and selling the device.

It will be interesting to see sales if Kindle devices remain as strong through the whole holiday season as they were on Black Friday. Maybe Amazon will release some hard numbers at the end of the year to put to rest the speculation about Kindle Fire vs. iPad 2 sales, but I doubt it.
