An update for the Facebook app on Android has generated a flood of complaints. The new version was released yesterday and users complain about crashes, black screens and sluggish performance. The app of the social network is one of the most popular Android apps with a reported install base between 1 and 5 billion. Also more than 35 million users have left a review on the Play Store page of the app.
Since an update released on January 19th, the reviews have gotten pretty bad. It appears the social network has released a very buggy update.
"Ever since I updated to the new version, it doesn't work off my cell phone network. And now it won't even open", writes user Larissa DeLong in the reviews on the Facebook app page on Google's Play Store. "Doesn't work since last update", is a frequently seen comment and also many users complain about a locking app and only seeing a black screen.
When such a popular app suffers from bugs then the number of bad reviews rapidly increases. The majority of the new reviews mention that the app worked fine untill the specific update from January 19th. Interestingly, this particular update had one listed change, "Improvements for reliability and speed". It seems that isn't entirely true for a large number of users of the Facebook app on Android.
