Leaked screenshot shows Metro app pinning in Windows 8.1 update

Russian hacker group WZOR released new screenshots of the upcoming Windows 8.1 update today. The screenshots appear to be taken from a more recent version than previous ones. They reveal a new feature, the possibility to pin Metro applications to the taskbar on the regular desktop GUI.

WZOR has a history of releasing information on upcoming Windows versions way before their original release and has posted the screenshots on their website. According to them it's a very recent build of Windows 8.1 GDR1 and it might soon be leaked to torrent sites. The first update for Windows 8.1 is expected to be released during a Microsoft Build conference in April this year. The screenshots and information provided don't show any major changes to the operating system.

The screenshots do reveal a 'Show Store apps on the taskbar' option. This allows users to pin Metro applications to the taskbar. This seems to be another attempt of Microsoft to blend the Metro UI with the traditional desktop. Rumors says that Windows 9, to be released in April 2015, will allow running Metro apps on the desktop, in a separate window.
