Leaked Windows 10 build reveals peer-to-peer update downloading

Microsoft will probably add the possibility to download Windows 10 updates through peer-to-peer (P2P) technology. In a testbuild there's a setting for downloading updates "from multiple sources". The feature has been added in build 10036 which was leaked this weekend by WZOR.

Microsoft didn't commented on the feature, that's hasn't been available yet in a public Windows Insider build.

Windows_10_P2P_updatesBy enabling the the feature users can download updates through P2P, both from the internet as from other PCs a local network. Downloading from multiple sources should increase the download speeds of updates. It's unknown whether the feature will also end up in the final version of Windows 10. The P2P download feature is a setting which users can disable.

It's unknown which technology Microsoft uses for the P2P feature, however the company acquired Pando Networks in 2013. This company developed a technology for file sharing based on the BitTorrent protocol but with several modifications. The technology from this company could be powering this feature.
