Leaked Windows 9 screenshots clearly show new Start menu and more

Several German websites have been provided with new screenshots of Windows 9. The build shown in the screenshots is 9834, dates from the 8th of September and was distributed yesterday evening. Windows 9 should bring a new start menu for the desktop, the possibility to run modern apps in a window and a multi-desktop feature. The screenshots confirm all these alleged features of Windows 9.

According to the German sites the screenshots are provided by the employee of a Microsoft Partner who has access to the pre release of Windows 9. This person has distributed 21 screenshots showing Windows 9 Technical Preview. The amount of details and the amount of screenshots should prove the authenticity.

The screenshots also show the latest version of the Start menu on the desktop, which looks different from the ones we've previously seen but is still according to the same idea, combining the Start menu as we're used to and the Live Tiles introduced in Windows 8. Also the feature that allows you to run applications from the Windows Store is clearly visible on the images.

Windows Explorer has a new (more flat)  icon in Windows 9 and there's also a notification system as we known from mobile operating systems. Also clearly visible is the possibility to have multiple desktops. This allows you to e.g separate your icons for work and private.

The version shown in the screenshots is expected to be one of the last build before the public release of a first preview version of Windows 9 meaning those who upgrade will have an OS looking pretty much like this.
