Micron announces 1.4 TB enterprise PCIe SSD - 750,000 IOPS

Micron has announced a whopping 1.4 Terabyte PCI Express Solid State Disk (SSD).  The drive that goes by the name P420m is targeted at enterprise users and uses 25nm MLC NAND.  It comes in two form factors, 2.5" and HHHL (Half Height, Half Lenght).

For the HHHL version Micron specifies a random read performance of up to 750,000 IOPS while the 2.5"  version is specified at a  maximum of 430,000 IOPS. Besides the 1.4 TB version, the drive is also available in other capacities, the HHHL drives come in capacities of 350 GB, 700 GB and 1.4 TB. The 2.5"  drives are available in 350 GB and 700 GB.

Sequential read speeds are specified up t0 1.8 GB/s for the 2.5" drives and up to 3 GB/s for the HHHL drives. The SSDs are designed to be used as caches in servers. Volume production of the SSDs should start in June, unfortunately Micron did not disclose any pricing information.
