Microsoft blocks 50,000 license keys to fight piracy

In the fight against software piracy, Microsoft Germany has blocked 50,000 license keys that were illegally sold on the internet. The keys were for Windows and Microsoft Office and intended for trial or OEM versions. The license keys were sold for low prices on the internet.

Users of invalid license keys are vulnerable to security issues because they don't receive updates and patches. Besides the considerable security risk, there's also a financial risk, consumers purchasing license keys that get blocked also lose their money because their Windows system is pretty much useless, according to Microsoft.

Therefore the software giant warns for offers of license keys that are considerably cheaper (e.g Office Professional for $80) than legitimate offers.
