Microsoft changes mind: doesn't discontinue sales of Windows 7

Microsoft deleted the end date of retail sales of Windows 7 from its website. The company changed the original deadline of the 30th of October 2014, as we previously reported, to 'To be determined'. The change indicates that the software giant from Redmond might consider to keep selling Windows 7.

Google's cache still shows the old page showing the old deadline which also reveals that Microsoft silently updated it. The page states it was last updated in October 2013 but it clearly was updated within the last couple of days. Microsoft initially planned to stop selling Windows 7 licenses at the 30th of October this year and PCs and laptops could still be sold with Windows 7 installed till the 30th of October 2014.

Both dates are no longer valid and Windows 7 licenses and PCs with Windows 7 installed are still widely available.

It seems that Microsoft has decided to continue sales of both Windows 7 licenses and computers with Windows 7 installed.

The company had to change its plans multiple times this year. With the release of Windows 8 it received a lot of criticism because the company removed the start menu and the OS booted into Metro. With the Windows 8.1 Microsoft has added a start menu replacement, the start tip and now offers the option to boot to the desktop as previous Windows versions.

Microsoft also planned stricter DRM for it's next generation console, the Xbox One. This would require the console to be always connected to the internet so it could continuously verify the authenticity of the game. Also this resulted in lots of criticism and Microsoft announced it would cancel this 'feature' as well.

Now users found out that company planned to stop sales of Windows 7 Microsoft once again received a lot of criticism and had to change its plans again.
