Microsoft has sent an invitation to press in which the company announces a press conference for the end of this month. It's expected Microsoft will introduce the successor of Windows 8 during the event.
The invitation is for a press conference at the 30th of September in San Francisco where the company will reveal their plans for Windows and "the enterprise", which likely means the company will announce Windows 9.
It was already rumored for a long time that Microsoft would reveal Windows 9 at the end of September and that a preview of the operating system would become available this or next month. The RTM version is expected to be released in Q1/Q2 of 2015.
Windows 9 should bring back the Start Menu and running Metro applications in their own window. The OS should also bring a new notification system and better integration of Microsoft's digital assistent Cortana.
