Microsoft ends support of older Internet Explorer versions

Starting the 12th of January 2016, Microsoft will no longer release updates for older versions of Internet Explorer. The company urges users to upgrade to the latest version of the browser. After the 12th of January next year Microsoft will only release security updates and technical improvements for Internet  Explorer 11 on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

Users on Windows XP or Windows Vista should either upgrade to a new OS or switch to another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google's Chrome. With Windows 10 Microsoft introduced a new browser called Edge. This browser is the default browser of Windows 10 and should ultimately replace Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 11 is still available in Windows 10 for legacy reasons, such as enterprises that require ActiveX support in e.g. their intranet.
