Microsoft freezes project Astoria - no Android apps on Windows 10

Microsoft has no longer plans to run Android apps on Windows 10. The project that should have made this possible was codenamed Astoria and was revealed in April this year. Now Recode reports the company has stated to them, "that it was not moving ahead with Astoria as planned".

Astoria should have made it possible for app developers to easily bring their Android apps to Windows 10. Both hoping developers would see Windows 10 as a great platform to monetize their apps and to provide users with a large number of available apps. The developers started to raise questions with Microsoft as the company went silent about Astoria.

Microsoft now told Recode that the project is delayed and the website reports that it's questionable whether the project will ever see the light.

Astoria was the codename for "Windows Bridge for Android" and only a limited number of developers had access to the project yet.  Users could create a Windows app derived from an Android code base with same experience, performance and security.
