Microsoft gives away free Lumia 950 with Lumia 950 XL

Microsoft is currently running a 'two-for-one Lumia phone campaign' in Canada and the United States, which means purchasers of a Lumia 950 XL get a Lumia 950 for free. The company likely gives away the Lumia 50 due to bad sales numbers.

Those who want to be eligible for the free Lumia 950 have to order a Lumia 950XL in one of the American or Canadian Microsoft Stores. It's also possible to trade-in an older Lumia phone to get an additional $150 discount and using the Lumia Offers Apps it's possible to get a 1 year free Office 365 Personal account.

The Lumia 950 XL is sold for USD $649 or CAD $849. Both smartphones are released about half a year ago.

Last Friday, when Microsoft announced its latest quarterly figures it became known that Lumia smartphone sales have plummeted. Only 2.3 million Lumia phones were sold in the last quarter, while a year earlier, in the same period, 8.6 million Lumia phones were sold.

Microsoft then also announced that the number of smartphones in stock was relative high and that the company expected an even sharper decline in revenue from smartphones the coming months.

While Microsoft has not officially stated that the free Lumia 950 campaign is related to the bad sales numbers, it really appears the company is trying to get rid of its inventory.
