Microsoft improves Continuum with multi-window support and Proximity Connect

Microsoft has demonstrated new features for Continuum, a feature that allows the smartphone to connect to a display and behave like a desktop computer. During its Ignite conference the software giant showcased multi-window support and a feature called Proximity Connect.

With Proximity Connect it's possible for Windows Phones that support Continuum to wirelessly connect to a docking station. The phone display no longer has to be constantly on when working on the desktop. It's possible to timeout e.g. the phone display while working on a monitor.

The Continuum desktop has also been changed in such a way  it more closely resembles the PC version of Windows 10. It now supports windowing of apps, meaning apps no longer have to run in fullscreen but multiple apps can be open at once. Apps can be moved around and resized, just like on the PC.

It's now also possible to pin apps to the taskbar and Microsoft has made it possible to have a different Continuum startscreen than the start screen normally used on the phone. Also the notification center is changed in such a way that it resembles that of the PC version of Windows 10.

Microsoft has announced when the new features will become available, but a logic moment would be the release of RedStone 2 in the first quarter of 2017.
