Microsoft launches Windows 7 OS

Microsoft is now attempting to start a new era with its Windows 7 operating system, in the company’s best effort to erase bad memories of its Vista Windows OS.

Some brick and mortar retailers quietly launched midnight openings so consumers could get their hands on OEM copies of the OS, and purchase PCs and notebooks with the OS pre-loaded.

“Today is an important day for the computer industry.  Certainly for Microsoft,” Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said during a press conference in New York.”

On average, Windows 7 reviews have been positive, which is a big shift from the early reviews of Windows Vista when it launched in January 2007.  Even though Microsoft has been applauded for the changes it has made, it will still take a few months before analysts are able to see how many consumers have upgraded, or are interested in upgrading.

The OS isn’t as bloated as Vista, and features such as e-mail, video editing and photo applications that were pre-bundled into Vista are now available for free directly from Microsoft in the cloud.  Furthermore, there is a netbook version of Windows 7 available — a drastic change from Vista, which still isn’t used on many netbooks.

Furthermore, Microsoft fixed a lot of the flaws found in Vista, with faster boot up times and a reduction in the number of clicks necessary to work with the GUI.

As usual, Windows 7 can be found pre-loaded on products from Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Acer, and other OEMs Microsoft is partnered with.  Physical store retailers have cut prices on products to try to convince consumers to spend money leading up to Christmas, so good sales should be available.

They had all the upgrades for sale in Costco today but not the Retail Versions.

Upgrade prices are to much, they need to reduce them if they want people to buy Windows 7.

Windows 7 is just more of the same bloated junk that Microsoft continues to peddle onto their brainwashed lemmings. I've been using Win7 Ultimate for a few months now and quite frankly it's a poor excuse for an OS. Its heavy on resources, has an unintuitive interface that takes too many steps to achieve simple tasks and is blatantly ripped off from the KDE desktop (shame Microsoft - you lazy asses), has embedded and intrusive DRM that wreaks havoc on digital content and finally has a security model (UAC) that does very little to protect against rampant malware.

Yeah, just more of the same sloppy garbage one has come to expect from Microsoft or is it PigSoft ?

So how did you find out about and know it had the DRM ??? I know they said it was on Vista as well...

I've been quite happy with win7 ultimate RC. Fast doesn't crash all the time, most everything works. I turned off all the UAC crap and use my own firewall and anti virus with it no problems.
It reminds me of when they first released XP, that seemed to work very well for me too. I never bothered with Vista.
