Microsoft officially releases Office 2016 to users worldwide

Microsoft has officially released Office 2016 for Windows. The Office suite with Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other applications is now out of beta and available for everyone. The new version of the popular Office software aims to make it easier to work together online.

An important feature of Office 2016 is making it easier to work together with other users on the internet. That works through Office 365, the subscription service from Microsoft. Documents are therefore stored on OneDrive which allows multiple users at once to work on a document. In order to do so, all users that want to collaborate are required to be subscribed to Office 365.

It's also possible to save files to other cloud storage providers like Dropbox and sharing files with others has also been made easier.

The search function is also improved. With the 'Tell me' feature users can type what they want to do in the app using their own words, and then Tell Me will guide through the process as well as offer additional resources.

Microsoft has also added a lot of functionality targeted at business, such as the new Office 365 Planner. The application makes it possible to share and divide tasks. This has also been added to OneDrive for Business.

Office 2016 also introduces additional security measures, documents can now be protected with two-step verification besides protecting them with a password.

The new Office suite will run on Windows 7 and higher. The software is available as stand-alone application, but Office 365 subscribers can also download the software from their account.
