Microsoft releases firmware update for Surface Pro 3 batteries lasting less than an hour

Users of Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 tablet who were unable to properly charge their battery, can finally fix their issues with a firmware update. The update fixes a bug in the battery management that reported the wrong values for the battery life of the device.

"Once this fix is applied to a Surface Pro 3, the reported full charge capacity will self-correct over the next several charge and discharge cycles. Surface Pro 3 devices that previously experienced the problem can now operate on battery power, and the issue won’t occur on devices that haven't experienced the issue",  Microsoft writes in a blog post.

Some users reported they could no longer use the device after they unplugged it, or could use it less than an hour. The problems also appear to be related to the used battery, users with batteries from the brand Simplo were mainly affected, those with LG batteries didn't seem to suffer from the bug.

Microsoft offers the update through Windows Update and recommends users who weren't affected by the issue to update nevertheless.
